Leonora’s work on porcelain Cells was first developed as a project in her final year at Central Saint Martins when she produced an Installation to commemorate the final year of the University’s use of the Lethaby Building in 2011. The Cell units in the Installation symbolized both the individuality and collective unity of the graduating students.
The porcelain Cell pieces are inspired by her interest in the twin themes of Art and Science. Each Cell is part of a collective batch, but each cell can also stand alone as an individual unit with its own uniqueness in shape and character. As a piece of art the power of each cell is in its expression of individuality within the context of its interconnectedness with all of the other cells in its batch.
