Ceramic Cells

This collection of work explores ideas and opportunities presented by the relationship between Art and Science. Developing studies of my own interpretation of the human cells, as the basis for an exploration to reveal normally hidden truths, making unseen entities visible and turning the inside-out.

The theme of revealing what is normally hidden is interesting to me, so there is a sense in the work of exposing the inner body's hidden truths and beauty.

The Cylinders Cells pieces are inspired by two-dimensional images of nerve fibre bundles and the central strands of axons within these bundles varying nerve signals, connect nerve cells together and transmit electrical impulses around the body. The tubular shapes are also symbolic of beauty within and without -- we may be curious to look within the tubes as well as contemplating the exterior shapes of the cylinders.

Thus, the inherent and fascinating contrast in cells between repetition and individuality is examined in my work.

Installations and individual one off art pieces are available for commissions.
